 What’s New in the 2025 Copper Spur HV UL2?

The Copper Spur has been a long-time favorite for lightweight backpackers, but Big Agnes rolled out a few key changes that make this version feel fresh—even if you're already a fan. Here are the three main updates:

 1. New Hyperbead Fabric

• 6% lighter

• 25% more waterproof

• 50% stronger

• PFAS-free: That means no forever chemicals—better for the planet and your peace of mind.

• It feels different too—almost slick or “wet” to the touch, which makes the tent more water-repellent but can be a bit slippery when packing.

 2. Easy-Pack Stuff Sack

• Ditch the top loader—this new stuff sack opens from the side with clip access.

• Includes a separate stake and pole pocket for faster organization.

• While it’s easier for newer backpackers, seasoned users might find the slippery fabric a little awkward until they get used to it.

 3. Durability Enhancements

• Upgraded rubberized components and reinforced nylon straps.

• The new TipLok Tent Buckles create a more secure and longer-lasting pole setup.

• Also includes silicone-like pole anchors for better tension and durability.

Real-World Thoughts from Zach

Zach’s been using the Copper Spur line for over a decade, and this new version stays true to what made it great:

• Same spacious interior: 29 ft², 9'x9' layout, and a center height of 40".

• Plenty of room for a 6-foot tall person to sit up, change clothes, and relax.

• Still ultralight, now 1 ounce lighter—a small change, but one ultralighters will appreciate. (Looking at you, toothbrush cutters!)

Slippery Downsides?

Zach did note that the slick new material causes:

• More slipping when rolling up the tent

• Sleeping pads sliding around a bit more on the tent floor

But overall? Not dealbreakers—just small quirks worth knowing.

Ventilation, Doors & Setup Features

• High/Low Vent System: Adjustable airflow via door straps and fly clips—nice in theory, but Zach didn’t find it game-changing.

• Awnings with trekking poles: Still there and still awesome. Perfect for sitting under the stars, cooking dinner, or just kicking back with a drink.

• Quick Stash Door Keeper: A little red tag lets you tuck the door away—no more rolling or clipping required when you just want it open fast.

Is It Worth the Upgrade?

If you already own the 2024 or 2023 Copper Spur and love it—you’re probably fine to stick with what you have. But if your tent’s:

• 4+ years old

• Losing waterproofing

• Heavier than 3 lbs
