Frequently asked questions
Insulated ski jacket or shell?
If you get cold easily or ski mostly on cold days, an insulated jacket is the warm, simple choice. A shell is just the waterproof layer, so you control warmth with layers underneath. It's more flexible across seasons but needs a good midlayer.
How should a women's ski jacket fit?
Try it over a base layer and a fleece. It should close easily over your hips and let you reach overhead without the hem riding up. A slightly longer cut keeps snow out when you sit on the lift or fall.
Are parkas good for skiing?
Longer insulated parkas are warm and cover more of your hips and seat, which many skiers like on cold days. Look for a powder skirt and a two-way zipper so the hem doesn't bunch when you sit.
What waterproof rating do I need?
Around 10,000 mm (10K) covers most resort days. For wet snow, rain or long storm days, look for 20K and up or a Gore-Tex jacket.
