Patagonia guide: fleece, puffer jackets, rain jackets and bags

Patagonia Better Sweater: jacket, 1/4 zip and vest

The Better Sweater is 100% recycled polyester fleece with a sweater-knit face, so it looks polished enough for work and stays easy to care for. It comes as a full-zip jacket, 1/4 zip, 1/2 zip pullover, vest and crewneck, with women's versions of the jacket, 1/4 zip and vest. It's dyed with a low-impact process that uses less water, energy and dyestuff than conventional dyeing.

Patagonia fleece: Synchilla Snap-T, R1 Air and Retro-X

The Lightweight Synchilla Snap-T is the classic four-snap pullover in double-sided, 95–100% recycled polyester fleece. The R1 Air uses a zigzag-knit, hollow-core fleece that wicks moisture, dries fast and breathes on active days, in a slim fit. The Retro-X has a windproof barrier laminated between deep-pile fleece and a moisture-wicking tricot lining, built for cold, blustery days.

Patagonia puffer jackets: Nano Puff vs Down Sweater

The Nano Puff uses 60g PrimaLoft Gold Insulation Eco, which stays warm even when wet, inside a recycled polyester shell with a DWR finish that resists wind and light moisture. The Down Sweater uses 800-fill-power Responsible Down Standard down in a windproof NetPlus recycled nylon ripstop shell. Both come as a jacket, hoody and vest, and we also carry the Micro Puff, Nano-Air, Fitz Roy Down and DAS Parka.

Patagonia rain jackets: Torrentshell 3L and H2No shells

The Torrentshell 3L is a 3-layer waterproof, breathable rain jacket that meets Patagonia's H2No Performance Standard, made without intentionally added PFAS in a Fair Trade Certified factory, in men's, women's and kids' sizes. The Granite Crest is a 3-layer H2No rain jacket in NetPlus recycled nylon ripstop, built for all-day movement on wet trails. For alpine use, the Triolet is a GORE-TEX waterproof shell jacket with matching pants.

Patagonia backpacks and Black Hole duffels

Black Hole duffels come in 40L, 55L, 70L and 100L, plus wheeled duffels from the 34L carry-on up to 100L. They're built with 100% recycled body fabric, lining and webbing and a recycled TPU-film laminate for weather resistance. For everyday carry we have the Black Hole Pack 25L and 32L, Refugio and Terravia daypacks, and the compact Atom Sling 8L.

Patagonia ski jackets and kids' jackets

The men's and women's Insulated Powder Town jackets and the women's Insulated Snowfarer pair a 2-layer H2No Performance Standard shell with insulation for resort days. The Kids' Powder Town Jacket has a 2-layer H2No shell and 150g Thermogreen insulation and is built for both boys and girls. For kids we also carry the Kids' Down Sweater with 600-fill recycled down, the Kids' Torrentshell 3L, and baby styles like the Hi-Loft Down Sweater Bunting.

Frequently asked questions

Which Patagonia fleece should I buy?
For everyday wear, the Better Sweater has the most polished, sweater-knit look, and the Lightweight Synchilla Snap-T is the classic casual pullover. For cold wind, pick the Retro-X, which has a windproof barrier. For hiking, skiing and other active days, pick the R1 Air or R1, which breathe and dry quickly.
What's the difference between the Patagonia Nano Puff and Down Sweater?
Both are light, packable puffer jackets. The Nano Puff uses synthetic PrimaLoft insulation that stays warm even when wet, so it's the better pick for damp weather. The Down Sweater uses 800-fill-power down, which gives more warmth for its weight in dry cold.
Is the Patagonia Nano Puff waterproof?
No. The Nano Puff's recycled polyester shell has a DWR finish that resists wind and light moisture, and its PrimaLoft insulation stays warm even when wet, but it isn't a rain jacket. In steady rain, wear a waterproof shell like the Torrentshell 3L over it.
Is the Patagonia Torrentshell 3L waterproof?
Yes. The Torrentshell 3L is a 3-layer waterproof, breathable rain jacket that meets Patagonia's H2No Performance Standard, and its fabric, membrane and DWR finish are made without intentionally added PFAS.
How do I wash a Patagonia jacket?
Always follow the care label first. For down, the care instructions on our Patagonia Down Sweater listings are machine wash cold, no bleach, and tumble dry low with two tennis balls to restore the loft. For fleece, close the zippers and wash cold on a gentle cycle.
Can I put my Patagonia rain jacket in the dryer?
Usually yes, on low heat, but check the care label first. The care instructions on the Kids' Torrentshell 3L, for example, are machine wash cold and tumble dry low, and low heat can also help refresh the DWR finish so water beads up again.
Which Patagonia Black Hole duffel is carry-on size?
The Black Hole Duffel 40L is sized to meet most airline and train carry-on requirements, and the Black Hole Wheeled Duffel 34L is sized to fit overhead bins. For one-bag travel, the Black Hole Micro MLC 22L pack fits under the seat in front of you. The 55L, 70L and 100L duffels are bigger options for longer trips and hauling gear.
