Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between waterproof and water-resistant?
Waterproof jackets use a membrane or coating with taped seams to keep you dry in steady rain. Water-resistant jackets and windbreakers shed a light shower but will soak through in a downpour.
What do 2L, 2.5L and 3L mean?
It's how the waterproof fabric is built. 2.5-layer jackets are light and packable; 3-layer jackets bond the membrane between two fabrics for the best durability and breathability; 2-layer jackets usually have a hanging liner for comfort around town.
How do I keep my rain jacket waterproof?
Wash it occasionally with a technical-fabric cleaner, since dirt and oils clog the membrane. When water stops beading on the outside, renew the DWR finish with a spray-on or wash-in treatment.
How should a rain jacket fit?
Leave room for the layer you'll wear underneath, usually a fleece. The hood should turn with your head, and the sleeves should cover your wrists when you reach forward.
